Harvey A. Schmidt

Harvey A. Schmidt, age 87, of Chilton, died on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. He was born April 3, 1927 in Chilton, son of the late Martin & Leona (Mathes) Schmidt. Harvey proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 until 1955. Following his discharge, he married Loa Ann Steinmetz on June 17, 1959 at the Chilton Presbyterian Church. He had farmed in the Town of Charlestown until his retirement when he began driving for the New Hope Center in Chilton. He was a member of the Chilton American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul where he had served on various boards in both the church and school. In his free time, he enjoyed time spent hunting and trapping, and also bowling with friends. Survivors include his wife: Loa Ann; his children: Julie (Bill) Kocourek of Brillion, Lori (Jayson) Monroe of Winneconne; 3 grandchildren: BreeAnn Schmidt, Jordan Monroe & Elijah Monroe; 4 siblings: Darlene Koehler, Delbert (Joan) Schmidt, Eileen (Glenn) Beers, Richard (Audrey) Schmidt; a sister-in-law: LaVerne Schmidt; and a brother-in-law: John Karls. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Ronald & Martin Schmidt; 2 sisters-in-law: Betty Karls & Beulah Portmann; and a brother-in-law: Elroy (Delores) Steinmetz. Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rantoul (N6080 West River Road, Hilbert, WI). Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, November 1, 2014.
