Helen C. Schmitz

Helen C. Schmitz, age 93, of Chilton, died on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Chilton. She was born January 22, 1924 in the Town of Meme, daughter of the late Peter and Angeline (Herr) Rollmann. Helen married Robert Peter Schmitz on May 28, 1949 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton.

Helen graduated from St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac and began working as a Private Duty Nurse in the Sheboygan area. Later, she was employed at the Toth Nursing Home, now known as Atrium in Chilton, where she was the Director of Nursing. During her working years, Helen also worked at the Chilton Day Care Center.

Although she worked throughout the area in many different places, Helen’s primary calling was that of caring for and raising her family. She devoted every day of her life to their well being and growth, both physically and culturally. Helen ran a tight ship at home and encouraged each of her children to ‘Stick With It’ in all that they did in life. She instilled in each of them a tremendous work ethic, eliciting help from them tending to the family garden which produced food to be canned and frozen to last through the year. Her dedication gave each of her children a well rounded upbringing that served them well into their adulthood.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly St. Mary Parish where she also volunteered with the Christian Women and the Daughters of Isabella. Helen was also member of the Calumet Medical Center Auxiliary and volunteered many hours through the hospital. Through the years, Helen played many rounds of Sheepshead and Bridge at the many card parties throughout the area. She also enjoyed keeping her mind sharp playing games of Scrabble and reading. Helen also put her love of reading to good use by volunteering at local schools reading to children.

Later in life, Helen enjoyed traveling abroad, but especially loved trips to visit her family wherever they lived at the time. She appreciated opportunities to learn and explore new things, and was perpetually happy to meet new people on the many adventures she experienced in her life.

Survivors include her children: Bob (Geri) Schmitz, Tom Schmitz, Greg (Carol) Schmitz, Rich (Missy) Schmitz, Mary Beth (Myron) Ravenscroft, Joe (Ellen) Schmitz, Jean (Ansumana) Kosha; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister: Mildred (George) Hoefler; a brother-in-law: Bob Biskobing; and her sisters-in-law: Lorrie Lintner & Betty O’Donnell. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Robert; a daughter-in-law: Mary Ellyn Schmitz; and her sisters: Anne (Al) Endries and Germaine Biskobing.

Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating.
