Herbert E. Seffern

Herbert E. Seffern, 93, of Fond du Lac, passed away at Grancare Nursing Home on Tuesday, September 3, 2013.

Herbert was born in Fond du Lac on November 11, 1919, a son of William and Esther (Disch) Seffern.

He attended Van Dyne Grade School, North Fond du Lac High School and Agricultural Short Course in Madison, WI.

On June 17, 1942 Herbert married Jeanette Sattler at Merrill Avenue Methodist Church in Fond du Lac.

He was a dairy farmer with his brother, Elmer.  He was also a substitute mail carrier and clerk for the Town of Friendship for 35 years. 

Herbert was a member and leader for the Sundown Hustlers 4-H Club, member of the Van Dyne Fire Department for 30 years, and inducted in the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1989 for the Fond du Lac County Bowling Association, where he was previously president. He was also secretary for 25 years for the Van Dyne Bowling league.  He was also a member of the Community United Methodist Church in North Fond du Lac.

Survivors include Jeanette, his wife of 71 years; four children, Duncan (Cathie), Richard, Bonnie (Alan) Wollerman, all of Fond du Lac, and Brian of Van Dyne; six grandchildren, Tina (Robert) Gruenstern, Duncan II (Jamie Peters) Seffern, Jill (Justin) Enders, Lori (Dan) Bellmer, Paul (Laura) Wollerman and Kelly (Scott) Johnson; six great grandchildren, Mindy, Austin, Amber, Ayden, Evan and Mattalin; three great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Seffern, Darlene Doiel and Betty Pinnow; brother-in-law, Roger (Laurel) Sattler; other relatives and friends.

Preceding Herbert in death are his parents; brother, Elmer; brothers-in-law, Henry Sattler Jr. and Cliff Pinnow.

Visitation:  The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 9:00 until 10:45 AM, at Community United Methodist Church, 701 Minnesota Avenue, North Fond du Lac. 

Service:  At 11:00 AM on Friday, September 6, a Christian Memorial Service will be celebrated at Community United Methodist Church.  Pastor Justin Lowe will be the officiant.  Cremation has taken place and burial will be in the Town of Friendship Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be directed to Agnesian Hospice Hope or the Community United Methodist Church.
