Herman G. Buechel

Herman G. Buechel, 76, resident of Fond du Lac, passed away at St. Agnes Hospital on Friday, April 18, 2014.  Herman was born in Fond du Lac on July 7, 1937, a son of Herman J. and Ludwina (Freund) Buechel.

On May 15, 1965 he married Janet S. Lefeber at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fond du Lac.

Herman attended St. Mary’s Springs High School.  He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961 in the 25th Infantry Division.  He was employed with Feldner Chevrolet in St. Cloud, WI.  He then worked at Giddings and Lewis as a machine assembler.  He was then employed with A.O. Smith of Milwaukee as a machine repairman.

Herman was a member of Holy Family Parish and formerly of St. Louis Parish, where he was a member of the St. Louis Men’s Club.  He was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 664 and Mathias Zerfas Assembly 1211.  He was also a member of the Mt. Calvary American Legion Post 454.

Herman enjoyed golfing, travel and time with the grandchildren.

He is survived by Janet, his wife of almost 49 years; 4 sons, Dennis (Tracy) of Fond du Lac, Patrick (Gina) of Neenah, Kenneth of Fond du Lac and Steven (Keri) of Gig Harbor, WA; 2 daughters, Karen (Scott) Miller of Neenah and Cynthia (Peter) Holzman of Fond du Lac; 11 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Joan (Donald) Steffes of St. Joe, WI, Diana (Donald) Abler of St. Cloud, WI and Joyce (Ron) VerHaagh of Fond du Lac; 1 brother, Allen (Betty) Buechel of St. Peter, WI; 1 step brother, David (Karen) Tetzke of Larsen, WI; 2 brothers-in-law, Lester (Peggy) Stephanie of Athens, WI and Jack Steffen of St. Joe, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents and step mother, Lucille Tetzke Buechel; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Roger Schneider; sisters, Betty Lou Stephanie and Teresa Steffen; daughter-in-law, Laurie Buechel.

Visitation: The family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 4:00 PM until 7:30 PM.  There is also visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 23, from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM.

Service:  At 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 23, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac.  Cremation will take place after this service and burial will be at St. Charles Cemetery at a later date. 

Memorials in his name may be directed to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Knights of Columbus Charity Fund or Holy Family Parish.
