Hubert R. Hensel

Hubert “Hubie” R. Hensel, 94,
of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

He was born on December 29,
1923, in Lamartine, the son of Albert and Evia Hensel.  He attended Fond du Lac High School and
enlisted in the military serving in World War II as part of the 382nd
Anti-Aircraft Artillery in the Philippines, New Guinea, South Pacific and
Japan.  He and his army buddies continued
to connect through 45 years of reunions of which Hubert served as a committee
member for all 45 years.  He was also a
lifetime member of the VFW.  On August
30, 1947 he married Phyllis Bohlman at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Fond
du Lac.  She preceded him in death on
December 13, 2015.  Hubert built their
home on Seymour Street and resided there for 66 years until his passing.

Hubert was a member of St.
Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church.  He worked
for Schenk Construction for 25 years and then opened his own business of Hensel
Sharpening Service, which he continued into his early 80’s.

He enjoyed bowling, watching
TV and spending time with his family.
Many countless wonderful nights and weekends were spent watching his
daughter and son-in-law play softball and later became very active with his
grandchildren and loved attending their special events and activities.  As he would say “those were the best years!”  His funny sense of humor, loving heart and
selflessness will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his
daughter, Diane (Bob) Stangl of Ripon; four grandchildren: McKenzie, Shae,
Mason and Tanner, all of Ripon; nieces and nephews; and special friend Kathy
(Stewart) Kumber of California.

He was preceded in death by
his parents; his wife, Phyllis; an infant son, Steven; and his brothers: Wilbur
and Gerald Hensel; and his sisters: Dorothy Rymer and Gladys Vande Berg.
