Imogene I. Schrubbe

Imogene Irene Schrubbe, 85, of Long Lake (Campbellsport) passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 at her home. She was born to Earl N and Mary Helen (Frazer) Lutjeharms on the family homestead in Mullaly Township, Republican City, NE. 



The family lived briefly on a farm in Phillips, KS, then returning to a farm just outside the original townsite of Republican City, NE, where Irene grew to adulthood. She attended the Republican City Elementary School and High School and graduated in 1949. 



She attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught two years in the Harlan County rural school. The family moved back to the Lutjeharms homestead for their farm became part of the Harlan County reservoir project. 



Irene lived at home for one year and then entered the Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing graduating with the class of 1955 and she received her B.S. in Nursing from Milton College in Wisconsin. She worked at the Brewster Hospital in Holdrege until her marriage. 



Irene married Royal “Bud” Schrubbe on December 11, 1955 and they joined Methodist Churches in Butler and Menomonee Falls, and after retirement and moving to Long Lake in Fond du Lac County, Tabor Methodist Church, Eden. Two sons were born to them Royal Gregory and Jeffrey Frazer. 



Irene practiced nursing for over 51 years at Misericardia, St. Anthony Hospital in Milwaukee, Community Hospital in Menomonee Falls for 14 years and spent the last 25 years of her career at Luther Manor in Milwaukee, where she developed programs and cared for the elderly. Her life was dedicated to care giving for her family, patients, pets and garden. 


Irene was active in professional organizations and served as an officer, board member and committee member for several including the Wisconsin Society of Health Education and Training, National League for Nursing, Milwaukee District Nurse’s Assoc., Milwaukee Area Nurse Inservice and Assoc. of Geriatric Nurses. 



Survivors include her son son Jeffrey (special friend Sheri Kriehn) Schrubbe, daughter-in-law Bernadette Schrubbe, grandchildren Jennifer Schrubbe-Gaffney, Jacqueline Schrubbe, Nicholas Schrubbe and Nathan Schrubbe, step-grandson Michael Carroa, 7 great grandchildren, a great great grandson, brother Joe (Mickey) Lutjeharms, sister Marjorie Peters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 



Imogene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bud on Feb. 15, 2016, son Royal in 2003, brother Elton (Ardith) Lutjeharms, in-laws Roy A. and Elsie Schrubbe, sister-in-law Margaret (Walter) Pischke and brothers-in-law Arlan Peters, John (Katherine) Walsh, Edwin (Velma) Walsh, James Walsh and Arthur (Ruth) Schrubbe,. 



The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 AM on Saturday February 4th at Tabor United Methodist Church, N4224 Church Road, Eden followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM with a luncheon to follow. 



Cremation will take place with inurnment at Ledgeview Memorial Park, Fond du Lac.
