Irma M. Boulay

Irma M. Boulay, 101, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at St. Agnes Hospital.  She was born July 13, 1912, in a farmhouse in the Town of Lamartine, a daughter of Edward and Alice (Bierhals) Quade. After completing 8 grades at the one-room schoolhouse in Woodhull, she graduated from Fond du Lac High School. She then completed 2 years at Fond du Lac Normal (Teachers) School.  On November 10, 1931, she married Kenneth A. Boulay and became a member of St. Mary’s Church in Fond du Lac.  After 30 years of homemaking she joined her husband in operating Boulay’s Garden Center in Fond du Lac until 1988 when they retired. She enjoyed recording radio commercials for the business and appeared on KFIZ garden talks from time to time.  She was a cub-scout den mother, a member of the Agnesian HealthCare Auxiliary and St. Mary’s Altar Society, and a Red Cross hospital volunteer for over 20 years.  She enjoyed reading, painting, gardening and creative writing. Prior to living at St. Francis Terrace in Fond du Lac, she lived for over 40 years at her home on Hopokoekau Beach on Lake Winnebago’s east shore.

Irma was predeceased by her husband of 79 years, and one sister, Doris Lowrie.  Survivors include her children, Kenneth A. Boulay, Jr. and his wife Phyllis of Appleton, Jeanne Conway of Fond du Lac, and Richard Boulay and his wife Lynn of Brookfield; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lenore Dehnel of Hyattsville, Maryland; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Visitation:  The family will receive relatives and friends at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

Services:   At 2:00 PM, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Francis Home Chapel.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.

Memorial donations in Irma’s name can be made to St. Francis Home.
