James E. Giebel

James E. Giebel passed away on Monday, December 21st surrounded by his loved ones. He was born to Benjamin and Margaret (DeBoth) Giebel on January 5th, 1929 in Fond du Lac.

James graduated from Goodrich High School class of 1948. He joined the military and served his country in the Korean War from 1950-1952.

On May 1st, 1954 he married Patricia Paitrick at St. Patrick’s Church in Beaver Dam.

He worked as a telephone technician for Wisconsin Bell Company for 37 years.

Jim loved his family, especially the little ones. His favorite things to do were fishing, eating “homemade” bread, remodeling houses, and playing horseshoes. James enjoyed drinking martinis and spending time with his many friends.  James gave back as a Boy Scout Leader for troop 777 for 20 years, was a part of the Holy Name Society, St. Joseph Society, Knights of Columbus, and was a part of the Telephone Pioneers.

James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia; daughter, Mary (John) Steffes and their children, Kelly (fiancé, JB) Steffes, Katie (Jason) Morrissey and Luke Edward; son, David (Jane) Giebel and their children, Brian Giebel and Megan, Greg Giebel and Gabby and Gavin; daughter, Karen Hunt (special friend, Jen Paules) and children, Jennifer (Matt) Doede, Steven (Katie) Hunt and Ezra; son, Joseph (Julie) Giebel and their children, Joshua Giebel, Janel (Tim) Foughty, Aria, Declain and Riley; son, Douglas (Sharon) Giebel and their son, Jacob; daughter, Jean (Jesse) Pauly, and their children, Cassandra Keller, Carolyn Otterson, Mitchell Keller and Blakely Keller; daughter, Joyce (Steven) Smith and their children, Samantha Smith (fiancé, Ryan Steffen) and Matthew Smith; daughter, Amy (Ron) Jacobson and their children, Elizabeth, Emily and Eva.

James is further survived by a brother, Richard (Janet) Giebel; brothers-in-law, Marv (Emily) Paitrick and Robert (Terry) Paitrick; sister-in-law, Marverne (Herb) Lehner; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

James was preceded in death by his son, Steven; parents, Ben and Margaret; parents-in-law, Marvin and June Paitrick; sisters, Clara Schiefelbein, Imoqene Titel and Peggy Quackenboss; brother, Thomas Giebel; brothers-in-law, Ray Titel, George Paitrick, Roland Schiefelbein and Francis Quackenboss; nephew, Dale Paitrick; and a niece, Susan Giebel.

A Private Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be streamed through Holy Family Catholic Community’s Facebook page on Monday December 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Cremation has taken place. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
