James M. Hoyt

James (Jim) M. Hoyt, 69, of Fond du Lac passed away on May 30, 2022. He was born on May 18, 1953 in Fond du Lac to Oliver and Dorothy (Stumm) Hoyt. On July 6, 1988, after years of dating, he married his best friend, Cheri (Wuest) Hoyt.

Jim graduated from Goodrich High School in 1971 and went on to work for the Soo Line Railroad for 41 years, making countless friends along the way, until retiring in 2013.

Jim was a dedicated athlete having completed countless marathons, half-marathons, triathlons and Tough Mudders–even doing some together with his daughter, Calli Hoyt-Diederich. He also enjoyed playing a competitive match of tennis with his son, Joshua Hoyt, followed by a good home-brewed beer. Jim had a green thumb for gardening as every summer he’d grow tomato plants that towered far above him. He was an avid reader, lifelong learner and skilled woodworker, having shared his creations with many. While to some, retirement means slowing down, it was said that Jim only sped up. Above all of his passions and interests being a husband and dad was what he prided himself on most.

Jim is survived by his wife Cheri Hoyt; son Joshua Hoyt; daughter Calli Hoyt-Diederich; and son-in-law Jacob Diederich. Further survived by his three brothers: Dave Hoyt, Mike Hoyt (Judy), and Ralph Hoyt. Two brothers-in-law: Mike (Julie) Wuest and Mark (Karen) Wuest. Two sisters-in-law: Patti (Allen) Anich and Laura Callahan. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Dorothy Hoyt, and sister Barbara Hoyt. Along with his father-in-law Bernard Wuest.

The family will be holding a celebration of life on August 19th from 5-10pm at The Hive in Fond du Lac.
