James P. Murphy

James P. Murphy, 73, of Eden, grew up on Church Road, lived his life on Church Road, and died at his home on Church Road with his family by his side on May 21, 2018. He was born on February 15, 1945, in Fond du Lac, the son of the late Leo and Agnes Murphy. Jim graduated from Campbellsport High School in 1963. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison Farm and Agricultural Short Course and joined the U.S. Army Reserves. On September 16, 1967, he married Carol Esser at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Campbellsport. Jim farmed in the Town of Eden and worked at G&L for over 30 years and became a member of the Order of Oldsters at G&L. He was the Town Treasurer of Eden for 37 years, volunteered at the Fire Department for over 50 years, was the former Treasurer for the Fireman’s Association, and served as President for both the Eden Snowbirds-Snowmobile Club and the Campbellsport Cougar Club. Jim was also involved in the American Breeder’s Service, St. Mary’s School in Eden, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. 



Survivors include his wife, Carol Murphy; son, Tim Murphy; daughter-in-law, Jackie Murphy; daughter, Colleen Murphy Miller; son-in-law, Mark Miller; grandchildren, Kevin and Elizabeth Murphy, and Molly, Megan, and Mya Miller; brother, Joseph (Nancy) Murphy; nieces and nephews, Erin, Cole, and Kerry Murphy; and siblings-in-law, Norman (Loretta) Esser, Jane (Ed) Gurno, and Dorothy Esser. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. 



He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Gerard; sister, Kathleen, sister-in-law, Sister Jeanette Esser, SSSF; and brother-in-law, Roy Esser. 



The first visitation will be held on Friday, May 25th from 3:00 – 7:00 pm at the Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W Main St, Campbellsport, WI 53010. A second visitation will take place on Saturday, May 26, at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 Co Rd B, Eden, WI 53019, from 10:00 am. until 12:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at the church with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Burial will immediately follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Eden.
