Janice R. Schmidt

Janice R. Schmidt, age 60, of Chilton, died on April 3, 2020, at Thedacare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. She was born February 25, 1960, daughter of the late Irvin and Ginny Kesler. On October 19, 1979, she married the love of her life, Bernie Schmidt.

Janice took great pride in her family as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She raised the children and took care of the household while being Bernie’s bookkeeper for his businesses. She especially loved being a grandmother to her family’s next generation. When she wasn’t busy with the kids, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, and crafting. Bernie was supportive of her hobbies and often would end up picking out more fabric and planning more crafts when they went shopping for her supplies. She was a fan of BJ Thomas and her most prized possession was a Coke can that she says he drank out of during a concert at a local park.

More than anything, Janice loved Bernie. They set the bar for their children as to what a good marriage should look like. They honeymooned at a cabin in Lakeland and took their kids there every summer while growing up. She always supported Bernie in his business endeavors and would always lend a hand. They liked to get out and enjoyed time in their camper. The doctors say she died of respiratory failure after a bout of pneumonia, but her children believe she had been dying of a broken heart ever since Bernie’s death.

Janice is survived by her children: Daniel Schmidt (Julianna Dedering), Catherine (Eric) Fain, and Erin (Jordan) McKeen; nine grandchildren: Mayghan, Elijah, Brooklyn, Malachi, and Khanaa Fain, Chloe, Fiona, and Thomas John McKeen, and Bryce Wesenberg; and eight siblings.

Janice was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bernie; her parents, Irvin and Ginny; three children; grandchild: Adriel Fain; and four siblings.
