Jeanne Marie Jahns

Jeanne Marie (Ewerdt) Jahns, was taken home by her heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the age of 75. She passed away peacefully with her beloved family at her side.

Jeanne was born in Fond du Lac, WI on October 17, 1946, into the family of Arnold and Ruth Ewerdt and was baptized into God’s family on November 3 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brownsville. She was later confirmed in the Christian faith on May 8, 1960, at St. Paul’s. Resting in the sure hope of eternal life through her Savior Jesus, Jeanne’s confirmation passage guided her life: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32)

Jeanne was a graduate of Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac. She met her husband, Wayne, at the pig barn at the Fond du Lac County Fair when they were both in high school. They were united in marriage on August 19, 1967, at St. Paul’s in Brownsville and were married for 54 years. They loved to hike, walk, camp, and travel the country together. Jeanne thoroughly enjoyed being a mother and grandmother and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved working in the yard, and not a weed could be found in her glorious flowerbeds. She was a fabulous cook and baker and loved to share her delicious food with others, holding a special fondness in her heart for desserts of all kinds.

Jeanne’s entire life could be summed up in one word: caregiver. She spent her entire life loving and serving others. She shared her love as a foster mother to Tim, Kevin, Derrick, Kevin, Doug, Beau, and Nichole. In addition, she served her Lord as a Sunday school teacher and through many other church activities at both Grace Lutheran Church in Waupun and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Fond du Lac. Jeanne took every opportunity to care for other people’s children and had a special place in her heart for babies. She also used her God-given gifts as a nursing assistant, dental assistant, physical therapy aide, and waitress. She once accidentally spilled coffee on singer Ted Nugent, and he still left her a generous tip and came back the next night, specifically requesting her as his waitress. Later, she shared her talents by cleaning people’s homes.

Jeanne’s strong and quiet faith had an enormous impact on the spiritual formation of her family, as she raised her kids and grandkids to know Jesus and embodied his love in everything she said and did. She also instilled her caregiving spirit in her children. Her daughters, Sarah and Missy, provided extraordinary and selfless care of their mom, particularly in the last year.

The family would like to thank the caregivers who helped care for Jeanne in her final months.

Jeanne is survived by her loving husband, Wayne; her children: Thad (Ann) Jahns, Sarah (Andy) Roach, and Missy (Schad) Kulibert; her grandchildren: Ethan, Micah (Maddie), and Jonah Jahns and Brennan, Kyla, and Caleb “Bubba” Kulibert; and great-grandson Martin Jahns. She is further survived by loving brothers: Mark (Beth) Ewerdt and Paul (Nancy) Ewerdt; and by brothers-in-law: Warren (Linda) Jahns and Wes (Marci) Jahns, and sister-in-law Wendy (Paul) Dille. Jeanne will also be remembered and missed by loving nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Ruth Ewerdt; in-laws, Orlo and Marie Jahns; and brother-in-law, Steve Jahns.
