Jennie Alsum

Jennie Alsum, 85, of Brandon, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.


Jennie was born April 3, 1933 in Friesland, WI the daughter of Peter and Jessie DeVries. On April 12, 1951 she was united in marriage to Gerald Alsum at First Randolph Christian Reformed Church in East Friesland, WI. Jennie spent many years volunteering for the Waupun Christian Grade School. She attended Alto Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed playing the organ for services. Her greatest joys were times spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren playing games, making crafts, spending time at the lake, and attending their various church and school events.


Jennie is survived by her six children: Linda Graves (Bruce Johnson) of Portland, OR, Judy Alsum of Brandon, WI, Karen (Calvin) Lemmenes of Waupun, WI, Marlys (Richard) Lemmenes of Oshkosh, WI, Harvey (Lynn) Alsum of Brandon, WI, and Amy (Thomas) TeBeest of Waupaca, WI; 12 grandchildren: Ryan (Jill) Lemmenes, Jennifer (Robert) Buchholz, Andrea (Cory) Kwakkel, Lydia (Dustin Weiss) and Claire Lemmenes, Chloe, Nora, and Maggie Alsum, Lauren, Cole (Erin) and Macy TeBeest, and Cyrah Schroeder.  She was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Reed, Grant, and Miles Lemmenes, Anna and Abby Buchholz, and Audra and Holland Kwakkel. Jennie is further survived by her sister, Gertrude Hopp of Fond du Lac.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; brother, John DeVries; and sisters Margaret VanLeeuwen and Winnie Posthuma.


A funeral service for Jennie Alsum will be held Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Pastor Laura Yates officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Mound Cemetery in the town of Alto. Friends and relatives may call on
the family on Sunday at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
