Joanne M. Kahl

Joanne Marie (Shepro) Kahl, 82, of Waupun, loving wife, mother, and friend to so many, passed away November 22, 2018.

Joanne was born January 3, 1936, the daughter of Carlyle and Hilda Abler Shepro. She devoted her life to her love of family, friends, and education. Joanne cherished her large, extended family of cousins whose love and friendship thrived through the decades. On July 25, 1959 she married Arnold Kahl in Fond du Lac and they shared a life filled with their four children: Julie Kahl, William Kahl (Sandy), Carolyn Kahl Dwyer (Lawrence), and Thomas Kahl (Megan). Later she would be blessed with three grandchildren: Jackson Dwyer, Jennifer Kahl, and Andrew Kahl.

Joanne was educated at St. Mary Springs and UW-Oshkosh. She developed life-long friendships including her beloved Robins who provided love and laughter for over 60 years. She also developed and nurtured her love of children and education. For over 40 years children benefited from the loving care and attention of Mrs. Kahl. Well into retirement she was still attending graduations of students wanting to share their accomplishments with their beloved Kindergarten teacher. Guided by her Catholic faith, Joanne had strong ties to her community. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Her commitment to public education extended beyond the classroom to advocating for Waupun Public Schools and serving on the scholarship committee of the Kiwanis Club of which she was a member.  She also served on the board of Waupun Memorial Hospital.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Carlyle and Hilda Shepro and her husband, Arnold Kahl.  Those who knew Joanne will miss her generosity, her kindness, and her baked goods.
