John B. Promen

John B. Promen, 60, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Fond du Lac, died at St. Agnes Hospital on Saturday, December 1, 2012 following a brief illness while visiting his family for the Thanksgiving weekend. He was born on February 25th, 1952, the son of Robert and Alice (Stenz) Promen.

John was a graduate of L.P. Goodrich High School, class of 1971.  While in high school, he enjoyed participating in sports. John was on the track and cross country teams and went to State Finals in wrestling.  He was also an avid skier.

John was a musician. In high school, he played trumpet in the marching band.  However, his real talent lay in his ability to play anything on the piano after hearing it only once.  After graduation, this talent led him to move to El Paso, Texas with the band American Rescue.  Later, John joined another El Paso band, The Renegades. His many years in this band included a USO tour in the South Pacific. John’s love of music extended to his other profession; he was as a piano tuner and technician in the El Paso area.  In 2005, John moved from El Paso to be closer to his family in Toledo, Ohio.

Mr. Promen is survived by his mother, Alice Promen (Fond du Lac); his brother Dale R. Promen (Fond du Lac); his sister Mary (Peter) Lindquist (Sylvania, Ohio); also by many cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Bob.

Visitation and Service:  The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fr. Brian Braun will preside.  Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

The family is very grateful for the wonderful care John received at St. Agnes Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in his name be directed to the Fond du Lac Agnesian Foundation or Hospice Hope.
