John F. Meier

John F. Meier, 89, of Eden passed away Friday Oct.24, 2014 at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac. He was born on the family homestead on Nov. 19, 1924 the son of Charles and Marie Cunningham Meier. John married Ruth M. Close on Aug. 16, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eden. John and Ruth farmed the Meier Homestead in the Town of Empire. He was one of the original founders of the Empire Threshing Assoc. and a member of the NFO, the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the International Harvester Club. John and Ruth enjoyed bowling and bowled in several couples leagues. He was also a member of Shepherd of the Hills Parish, Eden. John’s passion in life was farming and the care and love of his land. 

Survivors include his son John C. (Betty) Meier of Fond du Lac, his daughters Jane (Dick Schoener) Meier of Fond du Lac and Mary Pierquet of Mt. Calvary, his grandson Jack Pierquet, his brother Bob Meier of Eden, his sisters Mary Bick of Campbellsport, Rita (Harlen) Draeger of Racine, Monica (Tom) McDaniel of West Bend, Betty (Dick) Theis of CO, and Sandy Meier of IA, one sister-in-law Dorisse Close of CA, his faithful companion Sammie, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth on Sept. 22, 2014, his son-in-law David Pierquet, his brother Leo Meier, his sisters-in-law Ada (August) Barfknecht, Edna (Elmer) Bartz, Eleanor Morris, Jeanette (Dorrance) Phillips and Lorraine (Richard) Rabe and his brother-in-laws William Bick, Leonard Close and Donald (Geraldine) Close. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Sat. Nov. 1st at 1:30 PM at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Rd. B Eden. Rev. Charles Wester will officiate and burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Eden. Visitation will be Sat. Nov. 1st from 9:30 AM until time of mass at the church.
