John M. Weinreis
John M. Weinreis, age 88, of Chilton, died on Friday, June 26, 2015 at his home.
He was born May 29, 1927 in St. John, son of the late Querin & Theresa (Halbach) Weinreis. John married Frances Kopf on September 7, 1948 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton; she preceded him in death on August 22, 1991.
He operated his dairy farm in the Town of Woodville his entire life, but had also worked at Valders Canning Company; had been a Milk Hauler; Hemauer Lumber Yard; Sherwood Elevator; and then for 28 years as a Rural Postal Carrier. In what free time John found, he enjoyed bowling, boating, and continual work on the family farm; then later in life putting puzzles together and playing cards with his friends. He was a member of St. John Sacred Heart Parish in St. John, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, Catholic Order of Foresters – Hilbert, and the Catholic Knights – Branch 148 of St. John.
Survivors include his children: Joe Weinreis of Pardeeville, Alice (Joseph) Kmetz of Manitowoc, Katherine (Craig) Jungwirth of Appleton, Pat Weinreis of Appleton, Ellen (John) Weinreis-Kraus of Hilbert, and Marie Weinreis of Hilbert; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law: Arthur (Joyce) Kopf of Chilton. John is further survived by many special nieces, nephews, relatives, card playing buddies, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Frances; a son: Richard Weinreis; his brothers: Reggie (Dorothy) Weinreis, Alex (Alvera) Weinreis, infant brother Elroy Weinreis; and his in-laws: Edwina (Russell) Gasch, Clara (Allen) Lintner, and Jean (Ron) Escher.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at St. John Sacred Heart Parish (N7680 Cty Hwy BB) in St. John with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 pm until 3:45 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2015.
