John O Schmitz

God saw that you were weak and there was nothing more that could be done and said, John come home with me to your eternal kingdom. John O. Schmitz, Jr., age 83, died peacefully at Atrium Post Acute Care of New Holstein on Friday, November 6, 2015. He was born January 19, 1932, the son of the late John and Minnie (Dorn) Schmitz, Sr.



John proudly served our country in the Army during the Korean War from February 1952 until he was honorably discharged due to tuberculosis in November 1953.



On July 2, 1955, he married Romilda Durben. She preceded him in death on April 11, 1989. He then married Elizabeth Reichard on August 27, 1995. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2015.



John worked several years for Mirro Foley in Chilton until his retirement. He was very active in his community serving with the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and his church choir. He enjoyed traveling and always enjoyed a good martini and frog legs. He also enjoyed getting together with his friends to play cards.



John is survived by his step children Becky Borseth (special friend Jerry) Brillion; Tim Ott (special friend Jackie) Sibley, Iowa; Terry Ott (special friend Char) Little Chute; Kerry Ott Forest Junction; Lori (Ron Touketto) Chilton; Tracy (Sheila) Ott Chilton; and Kelly (Brenda) Ott Reedsville; brother, Edward (Rita) Schmitz New Berlin; two sisters, Delores (Lorrie) Lintner Florida; and Elizabeth (Betty) O’ Donnell Michigan; brother and sister in laws, Helen Schmitz Chilton; Judy (Marvin) VandeVoort Malone; Barb (Randy) Moehr Crivitz; Roseann (Don) Hueben Oneida; Jerry (Jeanne) Van Deraa Fond du Lac; Jerome (Lorraine) Van Deraa Stockbridge; Phyllis Van Deraa, Theresa Van Deraa, Joyce Van Deraa and Leona Van Deraa, all of Kaukauna. John is also survived by several step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.



Besides his parents and his wives, Romilda and Elizabeth, John was preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Lloyd and Donald; sisters, Ruth Grenzer and Grace Schmitz and brother in laws, John Grenzer, Martin VanDeraa, James VanDeraa, Marvin VanDeraa and Donny VanDeraa and a step daughter in law Debbie Ott.



Funeral service will be at 12:30 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Burial will follow in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 12:15 pm on Saturday, November 14, 2015.



The family would like to thank Atrium Post Acute Care of New Holstein, Heartland Hospice and Judy VandeVoort for all of their special care given to John.
