John was born in Fond du Lac, WI on October 29, 1935 to the late Harold and Alice (Smith) Webb.   He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s Springs Academy in 1953. After high school he obtained an apprenticeship from Giddings and Lewis. In 1958 John joined the Army National Guard and trained at Fort Ord, CA.

John worked in a variety of mechanical roles at Giddings & Lewis, A.O. Smith and Tower Automotive before retiring in 1999.

On February 25th, 1977 he married Virginia (Ginny) Nennig. They were married for 45 years residing in Fond du Lac, where they raised their two children, Dean and Cheri.

John’s life revolved around family, church, athletics and outdoor activities. He competed in football, basketball and baseball while at Springs, and continued to play many sports well into the middle part of his life. He later enjoyed watching his kids’ games and cheering on the Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers.

John was passionate about many outdoor activities. Between May and September, he could be found fishing on Lake Winnebago. When he wasn’t fishing, he was likely tending to his garden or spending time in the pool with his family. In the fall he looked forward to his annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota and hunting at his cousin’s farm.

In retirement, John enjoyed traveling with his wife Ginny and spending time with his five grandchildren.

John was a devout Catholic and was very involved with his church. He served Mass at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Our Risen Savior. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Eagles. John also belonged to a number of conservation groups including Ducks Unlimited, Sturgeon for Tomorrow and Pheasants Forever.
