Joseph A. Kowalski

Joseph A. Kowalski, 90, of Fond du Lac, died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at the St. Francis Home.

 

He was born on March 19, 1922, in Poland, a son of Walter A. and Marja L. Blasczyk                 Kowalska.  They moved to Milwaukee when Joseph was four months old.   He attended Milwaukee Public Schools, UW-Extension, and Murray State College.

 

Joe served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

 

On October 5, 1945, he married Viola “Vi” H. Hannemann at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

 

Joe worked for Mercury Marine for 45 years in various manufacturing management capacities in several different plants.   He was a member of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church.

 

He was a member of the American Legion Trier Puddy Post 75, a founding member of Marine Credit Union, and Mercury Quarter Century Club.  He served on the the board of directors for the United Way, serving as president for two years, South Hills Country Club, serving as president for two years, and Association of Commerce.  He was involved in many civic and community services, including mobile meals.  He enjoyed golf, traveling, photography, and video work.

 

He is survived by five children:  Donna Meinke of Medina, Ohio, Karen Moses of Las Vegas, William Kowalski of Fond du Lac, Robert (Christine) Kowalski of San Diego, and Richard Kowalski of Fond du Lac; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on April 27, 2008; a sister, Joan Lempke; two brothers:  John and Henry Kowalski; and a son-in-law, John Moses.

 

In following Joe’s wishes, his body was donated to the Department of Anatomy at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  At this time, no services are planned.
