Joseph P. Schroeder

Joseph “Joe” P. Schroeder, 82, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2022 after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born on April 11, 1939 to the late Paul “Sparky” and Dorothy (Welch) Schroeder.

He graduated from Goodrich High School in 1957. He proudly served in the United States Navy from August 5, 1957 to August 4, 1961. Joe retired from Mercury Marine on March 1, 2005.

Joe married Judine “Judy” Schultz on October 29, 1960 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Joe and Judy enjoyed many happy years together traveling, going on cruises, and camping. Judy passed away on December 6, 2013.

Joe enjoyed bowling and was in many leagues throughout his life. He was a 3rd degree black belt in Judo. Joe loved cheering for Wisconsin sports teams including the Packers and Badgers. He enjoyed dining out with friends and family, especially at his daughter’s restaurant Gino’s Italian in Fond du Lac.

Joe had a very fun and friendly personality. He could make good conversation with anyone he’d meet and he would always make others laugh. His family will miss his smile and fun-loving character.

Joe is survived by his daughter Jan (Jack) Knipple, two grandchildren Tyler (Erin) Knipple and Kelsey (Michael) Stephany, three great grandchildren Arlo, Ida and Iris Knipple and his beloved dogs Sparky and Josie. He is further survived by son-in-law Rick Mackie and son Jordan, sister Mary (Bob) Huberty, nephew Justin (Sara Sonsalla) Schwartz, other relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Judy, daughter Jodi Mackie, his parents and nephew Nathan Schwartz.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers you consider making a donation in Joe’s name to Sandi Paws Rescue in Fond du Lac, WI or Save A Life Pet Rescue in Orlando, FL. Joe had a deep love for his dogs and supporting animal rescue efforts.

Services: Joe’s family invites relatives and friends for a time of visitation at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac on Wednesday, April 20th from 3:00 to 4:45 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 p.m. The family will be having a private cremation burial.
