Judith Ann Smith

Judith Ann Smith, 74, of Eldorado, passed away peacefully the morning of December 27, 2014,               at ManorCare Health Services, Fond du Lac, after suffering complications from pneumonia and influenza.

She was born on May 4, 1940, in Fond du Lac, to Justin and Mabel (Maier) Winters, and was raised near Eden, Wisconsin.  She was educated at Marblehead Grade School, Campbellsport High School, and Moraine Park Technical College, Fond du Lac.

Judy met David G. Smith after a Lenten service at Church of Peace, Fond du Lac, and on November 30, 1957, the young couple married there.  She was not only a fine wife, mother, and homemaker, but Judy also worked outside the home as a caregiver.  She was a nurse’s aide for many years in facility settings, and later served the private sector providing in-home care.

Earlier in life, Judy enjoyed motorcycling with Dave, camping with her family, listening to live music and singing.  Other hobbies included baking, reading, and doing puzzles, but she especially loved spending time with her granddaughter.

Judith A. Smith is survived by her husband, David, along with their three daughters: Laurel Lyne Shaffer of Omro, LaDonne “Lolly” Smith of Rosendale, and Lea (Tom) Ratajczyk of Merrill.  She is further survived by her granddaughter, Chelsea Schraven of Oshkosh; step-grandson, Chris Ratajczyk of Illinois, and two sisters-in-law.  Judy also leaves behind nephews, nieces, cousins, their families, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents; her siblings:  Beverly Schmidt and Charles “Chuck” Winters; as well as other beloved family members and in-laws she had been very close to.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Judy’s life is planned for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac, with Rev. Laura Hawkins officiating.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

The Smith family would like to thank the staff on 5 South at St. Agnes Hospital, ManorCare Health Services, and Heartland Hospice for providing Judy with excellent care and comfort, and supporting us during her illness and passing.
