Kevin J. Walber

“Super” Kevin J. Walber, 62, of New Holstein, died on Sunday, September 17, 2017, at Northridge Medical and Rehab Center in Manitowoc, WI. He was born on July 24, 1955, in Chilton, WI, son of the late Donald and May (Kaufman) Walber.

Super was a rambunctious kid and was known as a jokester. On a windy winter day he climbed onto the roof of the family’s garage with a boat umbrella. He took three jumps using the umbrella as a parachute, and swore to his brothers that he was able to float on one of the jumps. He tried to take a squirrel to school for show-and-tell but the animal got loose on the bus ride. He was forbidden to bring any more animals to school, but that didn’t stop him from bringing covered cages or pretending he had an animal hidden in his jacket. He and his friends used to play hide and seek in the nearby cemetery – even hiding in the empty, freshly-dug graves. The same group sometimes snuck over to the neighbor’s house and would move their outhouse away from the hole. Super and his friends were on Main Street in St. Anne when they saw a car drive by leaking gasoline. Super wondered if he lit a match if the fire would travel down the entire street – it did.

Super was a dairy farmer most of his life but came to be known as a “jack-of-all-trades and master of none.” He did work as a roofer, painter, and at the Tecumseh factory. Privately, he was very handy and kept himself busy with beekeeping, wine making, making maple syrup, singing karaoke, hunting, and smoking fish. He loved fishing – he was president of the Crystal Lakes Sportsman Club and volunteered time teaching children how to fish. Throughout his life he never lost his sense of humor. He continued loving practical jokes and making people laugh. One of his most endearing qualities was his ability to make someone laugh when they were in a bad mood.

Super is survived by his significant other, Sheri Giese; his children: Jason Walber and Amy Walber; his brothers: Donald (Lori) Walber, Mike Walber, and Tom (Joan) Walber; his granddaughter: Summer Riemer; and nieces and nephews: Herbie, Suzie, and Elvie Baer, Andrea, Allison, Andrew, Steve, Nick, and Stacey Walber.

Super was preceded in death by his parents: Donald and May Walber; his sister: Louann Baer; his brother: Kenny Walber; and his nephews: Matt Walber and Joey Baer.
