Leah Wirkus

Leah Wirkus, 94, a resident of Fond du Lac, died on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.

 

She was born on April 11, 1923, in Oakfield, the daughter of John and Anna (Gutschmidt) Sturtz. 

 

On August 22, 1942, she married Allen J. Wirkus Sr.  He preceded her in death on April 7, 1994.

 

Leah was a member of Luther Memorial Church. She was a waitress at Stretch and Lighthouse restaurants. She was an avid Brewer fan and enjoyed making Christmas ornaments and being with her grandchildren.  Leah was fun loving and had a good sense of humor.

 

She is survived by five children: Eugene (Beatriz) Wirkus of Helena, Montana, Kathleen (Gerald) Gehling of Gold Canyon, Arizona, Allen Jr. (Barbara) Wirkus of Malone, Susan Shine, (friend Michael Phillips) of Avondale, Arizona and Daniel Wirkus of Fond du Lac; one son-in-law David Bray; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Bray; one granddaughter; ten brothers and four sisters.

 

VISITATION: The visitation will be from 11:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Kurki-Mach Funeral Chapel.

 

SERVICE: A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Kurki-Mach Funeral Chapel with Rev. Neal Radichel officiating. 

 

Burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park.
