Leon L. Jensen

Psalm 84:10 “Better is one day in God’s courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”

Rev. Leon L. Jensen, age 92, of Chilton, died on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Chilton.  He was born October 30, 1925 in Tyler, Minnesota, son of the late William K. & Hannah (Steele) Jensen.

Leon was blessed to marry the love of his life, Lois M. Bird on November 27, 1947 in Tyler and the couple celebrated over 70 years of marriage.

Leon proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he was stationed in Japan.  Following his honorable discharge, he farmed for 3 years before attending St. Paul Bible Institute, now named Crown College, where he graduated in 1951 with a degree in Pastoral Training.  It was through this education that Leon honed his skills proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ to all he met, even until the end of his age.  Nothing brought him greater joy than the love given to him through Jesus and Leon’s greatest desire was to share this same joy with others.  Leon’s love for Christ was evident in his sacrificial love and service to all those around him.

Leon served as Pastor through the Christian & Missionary Alliance Churches in Wagner, South Dakota; Echo, Minnesota; Belgrade, Montana; Aberdeen, South Dakota; Great Falls, Montana; Billings Montana; and Elk River Minnesota.  Upon his retirement, Leon served as Visitation Pastor alongside his son, Jim Jensen, at Faith Alliance Church from 1992 until 2017.

In his free time Leon enjoyed woodworking, especially making birdhouses and model barns for those he loved.  He looked forward to moments spent with his family and the many people he knew through his years in the ministry.  Leon especially loved his family and counted it a blessing to see his children’s children grow and have families of their own.

Survivors include his wife: Lois; 3 children: Sue (Jack) Odell, Jim (Marjorie) Jensen, Joy (Robert) Fredrick, Ron (Denise) Jensen; 10 grandchildren: Cammi (Brad) Bienkowski, Corey (Kathryn) Jensen, Derek (Faith) Jensen, Sarah (Nathan) Arts, Joshua (Christine) Frederick, Becky (Rick) Stork, J.C. (April) Conley, Jeremiah Conley, Jesse (Jenny) Jensen, Jamie Jensen; and his 21 great grandchildren: Kasandra & Zackary Bienkowski, Alexa & Breanna Jensen, Madison, Kyra & MacKenzie Jensen, Ben, Owen, Molly & Ava Arts, Olive Fredrick, Jake & Eloisa Stork, Azariah & Gage Conley, Rylan, Capri, Eivin & Jay Jensen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 siblings: Bernice (Darwin) Tadd, Lavone (John) Dyk, Leonard (Ruth) Jensen.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Faith Alliance Church (468 N. State St.) in Chilton with Rev. Jim Jensen officiating.  Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until 10:45 am on Saturday, March 10, 2018.
