LeRoy H. Bahr

On Sunday, July 5, 2015 our dad joined the love of his life our mom who left this world on July 21, 2010 after 60 years of marriage. LeRoy was born November 16, 1924 in Rock Run, IL, the son of Robert and Estella (McMullen) Bahr. On November 15, 1949 he married Marianne Schmitz in Fond du Lac. He was a 1942 graduate of Fond du Lac Goodrich High School. On April 21, 1943 he joined the U.S. Air Force and served with the 305th Bomb Group as a Tail Gunner in the B17 bomber. He flew 35 combat missions over Europe including battles in Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge in Ardennes. He received many medals including the Air Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters and the European Theater Operation Medal with 4 bronze stars. After his discharge from the Air Force on October 20, 1945, he returned to Fond du Lac to work with his father in the family trucking business until 1950. Leroy also worked at Giddings and Lewis Machine Tool Company from 1950 until his retirement in 1986 except for a two year lay-off period that he worked for International Paper Company. Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with mom at their summer home in Townsend, WI. Dad and mom did a lot of traveling in the U.S. and Europe and spent many winters in South Padre Island, TX.

LeRoy is survived by his children, Steven Bahr of Waupun, Susan (Jeff) Rock of Eagle River, and Karen (Gary) Babler of North Fond du Lac; son-in-law, William (Carol) Kinyon of Rosendale; seven grandchildren, Scott (Maria) Bahr of Beaver Dam, Sean (Becky) Bahr of Bowler, Michael Roebke of Fond du Lac, Jennifer (fiancé, Jason Sanders) of Fond du Lac, Jayson (Kristin) Babler of Crystal, MN, Shannon (Kurt) Sadowska of Oshkosh and Nicholas (Rose) Kinyon of Rosendale. He is further survived by 14 great grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Christian Bahr, Marissa (Curtis) Vele and Emily Bahr, Jeremy and Jarret Roebke, Mackenzie and Jadyn White, Liam and Emma Babler, Alayna and Ryan Sadowska, and William “Will” Kinyon; one great great granddaughter, Leikyn Vele. Dad also leaves behind a brother, Donald (Gayle) Bahr of Townsend and a sister, Mavis Fuederer of Appleton. Those loved ones that preceded him in death and will be welcoming him to God’s kingdom are his wife, Marianne; daughter, Janice Kinyon; daughter-in-law, Lois Bahr; parents, Robert and Estella Bahr; and parents-in-law, August and Adelyn Schmitz. 

Visitation for LeRoy H. Bahr will be on Saturday, July 11, 2015, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at the Church of Peace, 158 S. Military Road, Fond du Lac. Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday at the church. Pastors James F.D. Martin and Jennifer C.M. Dawson will officiate and burial will follow in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pour through and shine down upon us to let us know they are now happy.
