Lester F. Roehrig

Lester F. Roehrig, age 85, of Chilton, died on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein. He was born May 16, 1929 in the Town of Chilton, son of the late Edgar & Salome (Casper) Roehrig. He married Dolores Hoerth, daughter of Al & Jennie (Meyers) Hoerth at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Kloten on May 16, 1950. He was a long time member of St. Elizabeth Parish in Kloten, where he was a choir member, and was currently a member of Good Shepherd Parish in Chilton. He, along with his wife, operated a dairy farm and a farm to market milk route. In 1975, he was happy to turn over the farm & milk route to his children. He then operated a septic tank pumping service, worked as a salesman and semi-driver for Grogan Redi-Mix and later was an over-the-road truck driver for Bob Miller Trucking. Upon retiring, he was an early morning breakfast patron at Bob & Vita’s Uptown Café and Seven Angels Restaurant and spent Sunday mornings at the Railroad Junction. He was a director at the State Bank of Chilton for 40 years. Lester, along with Oscar Steffen, Mike Penning, and Marvin Ecker, started the Quinney Fishing Club in 1954. He was a charter member of the German American Society, honorary member of the Chilton Fire Department, member of the Chilton Eagles Club & Knights of Columbus, and the Stockbridge Harbor Fishing Club. He enjoyed bartending at Willow Inn, Brant, shooting pool, bowling, going out west with the Don Bonk hunting crew, playing cards with the Kloten Klick Kard Klub, taking tickets at dances for the Jerry Schneider Band and the trips with Karen and Jerry. The parties at the pond with his children, grandkids, and great-grandkids and friends were much enjoyed by Lester. Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Dolores; children: Roger Roehrig, Paul (Debbie) Roehrig, Mary Meyers, all of Chilton, George (Chris) Roehrig of Kaukauna; daughter-in-law: Carol Roehrig of Neenah; 12 grandchildren: Bryan Roehrig, Tim (Marcia) Roehrig, Elizabeth (Nick) Adcock, Mike Roehrig, Mark (Kari) Meyers, Chuck (Shelly) Meyers, Jennie (Andy) Zahringer, Matt (Samantha) Meyers, Geoff Roehrig and his friend, Sara, Erika Roehrig and her fiancé, Jeff, Alex Roehrig, Steven Roehrig; 7 great-granddaughters: Samantha Meyers, Taylor & Megan Meyers, Lauren & Tessa Roehrig, Temperance Zahringer, Myla Meyers and a great-grandson arriving soon; sisters: Elsie Dorn, Grace (Ken) Wirth; in-laws: Shirley Roehrig, Millie Roehrig, Clarence (Colleen) Hoerth, Carol (Ralph) Buelow; his “other sons”: Dennis (Grace) Roehrig, Steven Penning; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Edgar & Salome Roehrig; his in-laws: Al & Jennie Hoerth; his son: Dan Roehrig; a son-in-law: Ron Meyers; brothers: Leander, Edward (Doris), Richard Roehrig; and a brother-in-law: Ray Dorn. Funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 3:30 pm until 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 and on Thursday at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 10:00 am when family prayers will be held.
