Lorraine G. Wirtz

Lorraine G. Wirtz, 99, of St. Peter, died March 9, 2013 at Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary.  She was born on December 14, 1913 in the Town of Marshfield near St. Joe, a daughter of the late Bernard and Isabella Knaus Wirth.

Lorraine attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School in St. Joe.

On November 18, 1936 she married Ambrose “Jack” Wirtz at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe.  Jack preceded Lorraine in death on December 13, 1993.

She was a member of Holy Family Parish and the St. Peter Altar and Rosary Society.

Lorraine enjoyed being a mom and grandmother, offering her hospitality to family and friends.  She loved gardening, canning and baking. She took great pleasure in helping Jack operate the Mengel Oil Company for over 50 years.

She is survived by three daughters, Sr. Phyllis Wirtz OSF of Milwaukee, Mary Abler and Ann (David) Schumacher of St. Peter; daughter-in-law Dianne Wirtz of St. Peter; 10 grandchildren: Brian (Andrea) Abler, Mike (Tracy) Abler, Steve (Becky) Abler, Tim (Linda) Wirtz, Terri (Bill) Lamb, Christine Wirtz, Cindi (Brian) Liethen, Julie Schumacher, Carrie Schumacher, Becky Schumacher; 8 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by two sisters, Laura Goll of Sheboygan Falls and Marlene Klotz of New Holstein; two brothers, Melvin (Betty) Wirth of Waukau, Delmar Wirth of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law, Mary Wirth, Alice Wirtz and Olga Roehrig all of Fond du Lac, Alice Wirtz of Mt. Calvary, Betty Wirtz of South Bend IN; brother-in-law Frank Staab of Mt. Dora FL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; Jack her husband; son, Jim; son-in-law Roger Abler; six sisters, Evelyn (Arnold) Braun, Estella (William) Mueller, Alita (Ervin) Merten, Mildred (Tony) Brenner, Lillian and Viola Wirth; three brothers, Br. Edwin Wirth SVD, Leo (Dolores) Wirth and Lloyd Wirth; brothers-in-law, Herman (Regina) Wirtz, Herbert (Evangeline) Wirtz, Rudy Wirtz, Phillip Wirtz, Edgar Wirtz, Ambrose Roehrig, Ken Goll, Earl Klotz; sisters-in-law, Estella (Jerry) Hahn, Genevieve (Bernard) Julka, Rita (Oliver) Ciske and Priscilla Staab. 

Visitation:  Her family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac.  There is also visitation on Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church in the village of St. Peter.

Services:  At 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 14, 2013, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery.

A memorial in her name will be established.

Her family is grateful to the staff and Sisters at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home for ten years of exceptional care.
