Marcella Ann Harder

Marcella Ann Harder, age 96, of Chilton, died on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at her home. She was born February 10, 1920 in Hilbert, daughter of the late Edgar & Emma (Frueck) Kissinger.

She married Frederick W. Harder on June 21, 1941 and the couple farmed side by side in the Town of Chilton and raised their three sons. For 75 years, Marcella made that farm her home; it was the place where much of her story began and became much of who Marcella was. This was the place where Marcella tended to her large garden and where she made breakfast nearly every day for her family over those 75 years. Marcella was a kind and gentle woman, always giving of herself to be a blessing to her family.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where she had also volunteered with the Ladies Aid, and had been a 4H Leader earlier in her life. She and her husband had belonged to several card clubs in the area and looked forward to the many travels they had together while their sons tended to the farm.

In her free time, Marcella loved to make quilts and weave beautiful rugs using her 100 year old rug loom. She also appreciated keeping her body active and her mind sharp; she loved to be productive and proudly ran the financials for the family farm up until a month ago. Although her health and her sight began to fail her, Marcella never stopped living. She saw each day as a gift from God which she never wanted to be wasted.

Survivors include her children: Frederick Jr. (Anita) Harder, Robert Harder, Paul (Jean) Harder; 2 grandchildren: Andrea (Jeremy) Schultz, Aaron (Deanne) Harder; 3 step-grandchildren: Todd (Karen) Ritzke, Stacy (Brian) Carpenter, Tracy (Scott) Klug; 5 great-grandchildren with another arriving soon: Hayden, Isabella, Emmett, Teylor & Marina; and 7 step-great-grandchildren: Cole, Noah, Jake, Annika, Beckett, Marc, Zach & Megan. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Frederick; and a daughter-in-law: Nancy Harder.
