Marie L. Roberts

Marie L. (Elsinger) Roberts, age 105, of Fond du Lac, entered into eternal life surrounded by family on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Villa Loretto, Mt. Calvary. Marie was born on February 18, 1917, to the late Wolfang and Anna (Zangl) Elsinger in Dodge County, Wisconsin. Marie was raised on a family farm in the Brownsville-Oakfield area. She was the fifth of nine siblings and loved working on the family farm. Later in life she would come back to the homestead to help her younger brother, Theodore Elsinger, whenever she could.

On October 10,1942 she married Robert C. Roberts of Fond du Lac who preceded her in death on March 20, 1971. Marie joined her husband “Bobby” at Camp Campbell, Kentucky where he was stationed in 1943. Marie worked as a civilian clerk at one of the public exchanges (canteen) on post. When her husband was deployed, she returned to Fond du Lac where she lived for nearly 70 years. Marie worked as a laborer at various factories including Giddings and Lewis, Rueping Leather, Infants Socks, Wells Manufacturing and Tolibia Cheese in Fond du Lac from which she was employed the longest and retired from. Marie and Robert were blessed with one daughter, Shirley (Roberts) Lefeber on May 17, 1946.

Marie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (Holy Family) and Teamster Union. Sunday drives with her family and/or friends were a regular routine for Marie.  She enjoyed cooking, yard work and gardening. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her hard work, perseverance, responsibility, and love of family inspired those who knew her.

For the past twelve years Marie was a resident of the Villa Loretto in Mt.Calvary. Most of those who encountered Marie called her “spunky” and “sassy”.  She LOVED sitting in the sun in “her” recliner!  She prayed her rosary daily and will forever be remembered for expressing her gratitude by responding…”and I thank you, and I thank you, and I thank you”.

Those Marie leaves behind to cherish her memory are her daughter Shirley Lefeber of Johnsburg; four grandchildren, Russell (Mary) Lefeber, Cherie (Scott) Bunde, Darrin (Kay) Lefeber and Pam (Randy) Schmitz; ten great-grandchildren, Kyle (Tristan) Lefeber, Zach (Tara) Lefeber, Devon Lefeber, Autumn Lefeber, Madeline Bunde, Hannah Bunde, Hailee Lefeber, Olivia Schmitz, Chloe Schmitz, and Meaghan Lefeber; eight great-great-grandchildren, Taryn, Makaylee, Brezlyn, Scarlett, Axel, Landon, Magnolia and Wrenlee; one sister Florence “Flossie” McCrory.
