Marie M. (Feucht) Sabel

Marie M. (Feucht) Sabel, went home to be with Our Lord, the
Blessed Mother and Daddy on May 12, 2015 at the age of 97.

Marie was born in LeRoy, Wisconsin on April 3, 1918 and was
the daughter of Michael and Mary (Schraufnagel) Feucht.  Mom attended grade school at St. Andrew’s in
LeRoy and was taught by the Dominican Sisters.
At the age of 16, she went to work at St. Agnes Hospital in the
kitchen.  There she met, “The Love of her
Life,” Gregor Sabel.  They were married
June 6, 1939 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy.  Gregor preceded her in death on February 6,
1982.

Mom was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church (Holy
Family), St. Mary’s Altar Society, St. Mary’s Hope Choir, Daughters of Isabella
and The Eagles Club.  She also belonged  to, (Robert Hopp’s), “Lady of Fatima’s Prayer
Group.”  Mom was very devoted to the
Blessed Mother and her faith in God and her family were most important to her.

As a child, Mom loved to roller skate until she seriously
injured her leg.  Mom enjoyed
embroidering, crocheting, knitting and the aroma of Mom’s baking would fill our
home.  Mom and Dad belonged to a bowling
league at St. Mary’s and they loved to travel.
They traveled throughout the U.S., Germany, Switzerland and Hawaii with
relatives and friends.  Mom also traveled
to Alaska, Rome, Lourdes, Fatima and The Holy Lands.  Mom always enjoyed a good game of Sheepshead.

In 1958, Mom started working for the Sisters of St. Agnes in
the hospital laundry and later, in the Physical Therapy department.  Mom retired in 1983.  After her retirement, Mom volunteered in a
program of home visits, to shut-ins, with a Prayer Service and Communion.  Mom joined Hospice Hope administering
Communion Service and some health care.
Mom was honored to volunteer at St. Agnes Hospital in Pastoral Care as a
Eucharistic Minister and also at St. Francis Home’s Program, called “Journey
Home,” until 2008, due to her health.
Mom also visited relatives and friends in different nursing homes and
assisted living facilities and made sure they received a package of goodies
until she could no longer drive.  Mom
made lap throws for the residents at St. Francis Nursing Home and Hospice Home
of Hope and made scarves and mittens for St. Vincent DePaul.  Mom also crocheted Afghans for Church raffles
and for unwed mothers.  Mom never slowed
down.  We called her, “the energizer
bunny.”  During the winter, Mom would
crochet Afghans and made an assortment of beaded and crocheted ornaments for
all of her family and friends.  Her joy
in life was giving of herself.  During
the summer, Mom was outside tending to her garden and flower beds.  Mom also had numerous plants in her home,
which she would give away.  We always
told her she had a “green thumb.”

Christmas and especially, Christmas Eve, was Mom’s favorite
time of year.  The family would all
gather to visit, play cards, sing Christmas Carols and each family would
receive a package of Mom’s famous cinnamon rolls, party mix and there was
always an envelope of money for everyone.
Mom’s family was her pride and joy.
Mom made a “Special” play area in the basement just for the
grandchildren and later, the great grandchildren and great great grandson.  They always looked forward to coming to
Grandma’s and playing in their special place.
They will always cherish those memories.

Mom will be greatly missed by her children, son and
daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren
and all her many, dear relatives and friends.
