Martha Ann Schleger

Martha Ann Schleger, 100, passed away at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home on Monday, January 28, 2013.  Martha was born in Lexington, MO, on August 26, 1912, a daughter of Rev. Otto and Katherine (Laatsch) Schulze.

On August 4, 1935 she married Francis Paul Schleger at St. Mathew’s Evangelical Church in Chicago, IL.

Martha and her sister Gertrude were beauticians in Chicago. Martha was formerly a member of the Church of Peace, and presently Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Fond du Lac.  At the Church of Peace she was a past president of the It’s Martha Society, member of the Church Choir for 63 years, and a St. Agnes Hospital Volunteer. 

Martha enjoyed travelling, being a homemaker, bird watching and loved music.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Ann Ostrom of Rockford, IL; one son, Ronald Francis (Pauline) Schleger of Dalton, GA; three grandchildren, Charles (Teri) Ostrom of Charleston, SC, Cori (Brett) Schleger of Smyrna, GA and Michael (Jennifer) Schleger of Chattanooga, TN; five great grandchildren, Nicholas, Emma, Luke, Erin, Ben; other relatives and friends.

Preceding Martha in death are her parents; her husband; four sisters, Marguerite Cherney, Alma Green, Ruth Fabich and Gertrude Kamin; one brother, Edwin Schulze and one son-in-law, Curt Ostrom.

Visitation:  Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 535 Stow Street, Fond du Lac. 

Services:  At 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 31, a funeral service will be celebrated for Martha at Pilgrim United Church of Christ.  Pastor Ted Drewsen will officiate.  Entombment will follow at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.

Memorials in her name are preferred, and may be directed to the Pilgrim United Church of Christ or the Church of Peace Music Fund.
