Marvin De Vries

Marvin De Vries, 89, of Waupun, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Christian Homestead in Waupun. He was ready to meet his Lord and Savior.

 

Marvin was born on August 19, 1923 in Randolph, WI the son of Henry and Susie Burmania De Vries. On August 14, 1953 he married Caroline Bos, and they resided in Waupun all their married lives. Marvin was employed by a number of places during his lifetime, often carrying two jobs at one time for his family. He was a hard worker and wasn’t known to stand still very often. Over the years he worked at Rueping Leather, National Rivet, Remus Garbage, Fairwater Canning, was a school and church janitor, and farm laborer. Marvin was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Waupun. He enjoyed traveling with his wife over the years, and always wanted to go back to Hawaii. He also enjoyed bowling and played a lot of horseshoes. Many know of him for often having lawn mowers for sale in front of his house.

 

Marvin is survived by a son, Douglas (Susan) De Vries of Two Rivers; a daughter, Doreen (Jeremy) Smith of Waupun; four grandchildren, Christina, Alyson and Brianna De Vries, and Ashlyn Smith; a brother, Harold (Fran) De Vries; sisters-in-law, Mildred (Chester) De Vries, Sylvia (Charlie) De Vries, and Alice (Rev. Willard) De Vries; a brother-in-law, Don (Johanna) Van Beek; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Caroline De Vries; brothers, John De Vries, Charlie De Vries, Frank De Vries, Pete De Vries, Chester De Vries, and Rev. Willard De Vries; and a sister, Johanna Van Beek.

 

Funeral services for Marvin De Vries will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Waupun with Rev. Jeff Brower officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Tuesday at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun from 5-7 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
