Marvis D. Auchtung

Marvis D. Auchtung, 89, of Malone, died peacefully at home with his daughter at his side on Thursday, July 4, 2013.

 

He was born on August 28, 1923, in the Town of Neenah, a son of Theodore and Elsa Manteufel Auchtung.

 

Marvis worked at Giddings & Lewis and served with the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Saratoga.  After the war, he farmed, retiring in 1979.

 

On December 21, 1943, he married Gladys L. Wehrenberg in Sacramento, California.  Marvis and Gladys had a great love for children and over the years, cared for many foster children.

 

Marvis was a member of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church. 

 

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Freeman of Malone; three sons:  Ronald (Ruth) Auchtung of Van Dyne,  Mark (Jane) Auchtung of Lamartine, and Lee Auchtung of Fond du Lac; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys on January 29, 1992; his children:  Marlin, Michael, and Victoria; two brothers, Walden and Elwin; a sister, Velma Jane; and two sisters-in-law.

 

The funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, July 8, 2013, at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Wisconsin American Drive, Fond du Lac, with Pastor Beth Macha officiating.   Burial will follow in Rienzi Cemetery with military rites to be conducted.

 

The visitation will be on Monday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. 

 

Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or Agnesian Hospice.
