Mary E. Abler

Mary E. Abler, 71, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, May 18, 2013.  Mary was born in St. Peter on September 25, 1941, a daughter of Ambrose “Jack” and Lorraine (Wirth) Wirtz.

Mary was a graduate of St. Mary’s Springs Academy in 1960.  She was retired from Agnesian Healthcare in the Human Resource office. 

On May 8, 1971 she married Roger “Cheesie” Abler in St. Peter.

Mary was a member of Holy Family Parish and was a church cleaner, bereavement minister, communion distributor and lector at St. Peter Church. 

She enjoyed traveling, golfing and playing cards.  Mary loved her time with family, and especially with the grandchildren. 

Mary is survived by three sons, Brian (Andrea), Michael (Tracy) of Fond du Lac and Steven (Becky) of Manitowoc; three grandsons, Chase, Matthew and Benjamin Abler; sisters, Sr. Phyllis Wirtz OSF of Milwaukee and Ann (David) Schumacher of St. Peter; sisters-in-law, Dianne Wirtz, Julitta (Elmer) Schmitz, Bernice (Gerald) Diederichs, Rita Diederichs, Lorraine Ballwanz, Marion (Ron) Freund and Kathy (Al) Kempf; brothers-in-law, Willie (Marie) Abler and Don (Diana) Abler; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She is preceded in death by Roger, her husband, parents and brother, James; brothers-in-law, Bob Ballwanz and Melvin Diederichs.   

Visitation:  The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac.  There is also visitation on Friday, May 24, 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Village of St. Peter, from 9:30 until 10:45 AM.

Service: At 11:00 AM on Friday, May 24, 2013, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Peter Catholic Church in the Village of St. Peter.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the family for Holy Family Parish or the American Cancer Society.
