Mary Ellen Plaisance

Mary Ellen Plaisance, 95, a resident at Villa Loretto Nursing Home, Mt Calvary, stepped into heaven on September 22nd, surrounded by her children.  Mary was born a daughter of Edward and Josephine Poyer on May 31st, 1918, in Fond du Lac.

Mary graduated from Messmer High School, Milwaukee in 1936, and from St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Milwaukee in 1939, as a Registered Nurse.  November 30, 1940 she married Walter Plaisance.  Walter preceded her in death on July 20, 2004.

Mary’s legacy included 9 children, 38 grandchildren, 74 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, along with 18 years spent at St Agnes Hospital caring for the premature babies.  Mary loved all her children but thought there was nothing better than to hold a baby on her lap.  She enjoyed reading, sewing, baking, and bingo.  We all fondly remember her cheesecake and sweet-rolls.

Mary was a member of Holy Family Parish, a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and St. Mary’s Quilters.

Survivors include her children, Jim (Pat) Plaisance, of Fond du Lac, Mary (Bill) Emmons, of West Hills CA, Ellen (Tom) Crosbie, of McHenry, IL,  Barbara (Tom) Gottsacker, of Menasha, Annie (Bob) Sabel, of Fond du Lac,  Mary Ellen Plaisance, of Neenah, John Fink, of Ogdensburg, and Kathy Plaisance of Oconomowoc, WI. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by husband Walter Plaisance, sons Michael and Richard Plaisance, daughters Jan Fink and Jackie Peterson, grandchildren Joseph and Joshua Plaisance, and Becky Emmons, two brothers, Edward and James Poyer and a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Reidy.
