Mary L. Schmidt

Mary L. Schmidt, 71, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born May 2, 1944 in Fond du Lac, the daughter of Raymond and Estelle Fuhrman Wagner. On August 16, 1969 she married Karl R. Schmidt at Church of Our Saviour in Fond du Lac and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2013. Mary attended Carroll College and taught school at Holy Cross in New Holstein and St. Mary’s in Fond du Lac for several years. After raising her family she wasa staff assistant and later became the Senior Citizen Representative for Congressman Thomas Petri retiring in 2008. She enjoyed helping people in this position. She was a member of Church of Our Saviour, Service League, PEO, and volunteered for Bassett Buddies Rescue. She enjoyed holidays with family, loved animals, spending time on the beach in Key West, and living in her country log home.



She is survived by her children, Andi (Reggie) Rainey of Madison and Jason Schmidt of Fond du Lac; one granddaughter, Savanna Rainey; one brother, Christopher (Kathy) Wagner of Chicago, IL; one sister-in-law, Jan (Larry) Stuhr of Fond du Lac; one brother-in-law, Philip Schmidt of Fond du Lac; one aunt, Jeanette Ruh of Lake Oswego, OR; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Karl.



The visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Church of Our Saviour, 363 South Main Street, Fond du Lac. Burial will follow in Rienzi Cemetery.



Ever grateful for organ donation, Mary’s life was extended by 30 years living it to the fullest. The gift of organ donation made her a strong believer in giving the gift of life to others.



Memorials can be made to Willowdale Nursing Home or Agnesian Hospice in Mary’s name.
