Mary L. Showers

Mary L. Showers, 91, of North Fond du Lac, was received into Paradise on August 2, 2018.
Mary was born Maria de la Luz Arreazola on January 27, 1927, to Crescenciano and Emilia Arreazola.
In 1942, Mary moved to Wisconsin with her family and settled in the Waukesha area. Mary loved to sing with her siblings; the
family performed on a local live radio broadcast as well as at local events.
She was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 1942 and was moved to a facility in Jefferson, WI. She beat TB and returned to
Waukesha two years later.
Mary met Robert Showers of Waupun at a New Year’s Eve dance in 1956. She married him on June 15, 1957 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Waukesha. The couple moved to Waupun where Robert worked as a corrections officer and Mary provided
hair care services in the couple’s home.
The Showers’ raised three children together and Mary also cared for many neighborhood children each day. She later worked as
a receptionist for the Waupun Christian Home and retired in 1992.
The couple moved to North Fond du Lac in 1994. Robert went to heaven on February 2, 1998. After her husband’s death, Mary
took a job at the Fond du Lac YMCA Child Care Center where she served as a grandma to dozens of children.
Mary is a shining example of a life well lived. She spent her time on earth being good to everyone. She was kind, sweet,
thoughtful, cheerful, friendly, and a pillar of faith. Mary always put her faith into action by feeding the hungry, clothing the
needy, supporting charities, opening her home to those in need and offering encouragement to the discouraged. Mary made the
world a better place. Her smile and her tender, generous heart are already sorely missed.
Mary is survived by her three children: April Showers of North Fond du Lac, Fr. Robert Showers, OFM Conv. of Angola, IN
and Mary Ellen Christensen of Fresno, CA.; two grandsons: Christopher Christensen of Fond du Lac and Brandon Christensen
of Fresno; two great-grandchildren: Hannah Swalby of Fond du Lac and Owen Christensen of Madison, WI.; two sisters: Emily
Appenzeller of Oconomowoc and Grace Rodriguez of McAllen, TX.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Aureliano, Daniel, and John Arreazola; her sisters: Rafaela
Arreazola, Raquel Perez, Isabel Garcia, and Olivia Llanas; sisters and brothers in-law; and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Kurki-Mach Funeral Chapel, 31 E. Division St., Fond du
Lac; the rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
Visitation will also be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Sacred Heart Church, 200 S. Peters Ave, Fond du
Lac. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Mary’s son, Fr. Bob, will celebrate Mass.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waupun.
Mary was called home on the feast day of Mary, Queen of the Angels. She’s now teaching angels how to sing.
