Mary Vander Grinten

On June 9, 2021, Mary Josephine (Heiman) Vander Grinten passed away at Harbor Haven Health and Rehabilitation in Fond du Lac, WI, after her long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 78 years old.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband Eugene Vander Grinten; their children, Tony Vander Grinten (significant other Michelle), Bill (Debbie) Vander Grinten, Polly Vander Grinten, Jennifer Wittig; grandchildren Zachary (Alexandra) Vander Grinten, Kayci Hubl Vander Grinten, Tyler Vander Grinten, Ian Vander Grinten, Ella Vander Grinten; great-grandson Lewis Vander Grinten; and siblings Peggy (Lynn) Birschbach, Mary (Jim) Vander Grinten, John Heiman, Sister Judith Vander Grinten, Nancy Darkow, Ron (Joan) Vander Grinten. She was preceded in death by her parents Bernie and Hildegard (Seidler) Heiman, in-laws Joseph and Mary Frances (Bertram) Vander Grinten and sister Barbara (Charles) Vossekuil.

Mary Jo was born on August 24th, 1942, in Fond du Lac, WI. She graduated from Goodrich High School in 1960. She met Gene roller skating at Skateland, and they married on October 19, 1963 at St. Patrick’s Church in Fond du Lac. Upon her marriage, she moved to Eden, WI, where she and Gene raised their family. Mary Jo was active in her faith through the Shepherd of the Hills Congregation in Eden, WI. She volunteered at many congregation functions, and always lent a helping hand and a smile. She was a member of the Eden Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Mary Jo and Gene enjoyed many years of camping, vacationing, and snowmobiling with friends and family throughout the years.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the staff of Harbor Haven Health & Rehabilitation and Agnesian Hospice for the care that they provided to Mary Jo.

Visitation will be held Monday June 14th from 3:00 to 5:45 PM, with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 6:00 PM, at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Road B, Eden, WI, with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Burial will be Tuesday, June 15th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Eden.
