Michael G. Schoenborn

Michael G. Schoenborn, age 66, of Chilton, died on Friday, January 28, 2022 at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein.  He was born April 5, 1955 in Fond du Lac, son of the late Elmer J & Valeria (Grenzer) Schoenborn.  

Following his high school graduation, Michael proudly served in the United States Navy from 1977 until 1997 as a Chief Boiler Technician.  During this time, he served on the USS Dixon in the Persian Gulf War where he was recognized for his exemplary service.  These accolades included his meritorious service on and off of his ship, but also included being recognized as “Sailor of the Year”.  

He was a member of the American Legion Post #125 in Chilton, and had been a former member of the VFW Post in Alpine, California where he also served as Sr. Vice Commander from 1990 until 1991.  

In his free time, Michael enjoyed time in the great outdoors, and was known to be an excellent mechanic who loved to work on vehicles.  Michael could pull a motor apart and and have it back up and running in no time.  

He is survived by his children: Jeremy W. (Stephanie) Owen, Nicole (Joe) Fabry, Justin (Stephanie) Schoenborn; a step-son: Chris Ninmer; the glue that held his family together: Dorothy Gruber; 4 grandchildren; his siblings:  Judy Meyer and her fiancé, Bob Preissner,  Joe (Karen) Schoenborn, Ben (Doreen) Schoenborn; and a sister-in-law: Maureen Becker.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents: Mike & Clara Schoenborn and Gregory & Hattie Grenzer; a sister: Linda Cornelissen; a brother: Michael Becker; and  brothers-in-law: Ted Meyer & Steve Christel.

Private family services are being held, and Michael will be buried at sea in accordance to the United States Navy tradition.
