Miriam Gerrits

Miriam Gerrits, 92, of Waupun, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 in Appleton.

Miriam was born March 16, 1929 in Plymouth, WI to Arthur and Gladys Parrish Van Ess.  She was a 1946 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. From 1957 through 1995, Miriam was an owner and officer of Waupun Auto Supply, Inc. Her active participation in the business was instrumental in its success and growth. When not raising children or working at the NAPA store, Miriam enjoyed traveling to France, Germany, Switzerland, Aruba, etc. and spending time at her place on Lake Du Bay. She has many happy memories of cruising the lake on her pontoon boat and fishing for walleye with family and friends. Miriam was a huge fan of Wisconsin’s football teams. When Fall came around she anxiously awaited Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer football games and for many years attended games in person as a season ticket holder.

Miriam is survived by a daughter, Judith Gerrits; three sons: William (Deb) Gerrits, Christopher Gerrits, and Thomas (Peg) Gerrits; grandchildren: Scott (Barb) Brandsma, Craig Brandsma, Peter (Shelby) Brandsma, Emily (Mark) Yahraus, Dean (Jennifer) Hohl, Dustin (Heidi) Gerrits, Angie Gerrits Loomans, Bree (Jeff) Gunnink, Robert Gerrits, Chris Bloor, John (Edina) Gerrits, Melanie Gerrits, and Adam Gerrits; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilynn (William) May; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Gerrits; and a grandson, Aaron Gerrits.

A funeral service for Miriam Gerrits will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Pastor Steve Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.  Friends and relatives may call on the family on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a memorial be made out to “The Aaron Gerrits Rhemody Foundation” or Heartland Hospice Care.
