Nanette Longo

Nanette Longo, age 71, passed away peacefully on March 22 at the Woodlands Senior Park community.

Nanette, one of twelve children, was the first daughter of Mary (Gross) and Glenn Curran Sr.  She grew up in their home on Western Avenue in Fond du Lac, helping raise her many younger siblings.

Joe Longo first asked Nan out on a date at The Hippo, a minor bar, where she promptly turned him down. She later changed her mind and within two weeks, Joe knew Nan was the person he wanted to spend his life with. On September 25th,1971, they were united in marriage at St. Theresa’s in Theresa.

Joe and Nan were inseparable, married for more than fifty years. Nanette’s family was the center of her world. Her brothers and sisters became her best friends. Her two daughters were her pride and her grandchildren brought her profound joy.

Nan spent the entirety of her working years taking care of other people. For almost twenty years she used her gifts as a nurse’s aide to care for residents at a variety of assisted living facilities in Fond du Lac including Care Center, Grancare, and the Lincoln House. Later, she shared her talents by helping to clean people’s homes.

Nan also loved a good reason to celebrate. Her smile and laughter would light up a room. She created extraordinary holidays and special occasions for her family. She loved a good glass of wine and creating a feast meant for the masses. Most importantly, she enjoyed many road trips and adventures with her husband, Joe.

Nanette will best be remembered for her kind and caring spirit. She took every opportunity to help care for other people’s children: she had a special place in her heart for babies. She was a fabulous cook and baker and graciously shared her delicious treats. She was generous to a fault.

Nanette is survived by her beloved husband Joe, children Laura (Jay) Rommelfanger of Oshkosh and Vicki (Anthony) Strobel of Wauwatosa as well as her grandchildren Kennedy and Sophia (Rommelfanger) and Luke and Charley (Strobel). She leaves behind her brothers Bob (Peggy) of Phoenix, AZ, Jeff of Waupun, Tim (Linda) of Rosendale, Glenn Jr. of Ripon, and Edward (Vonnie) of Brandon; and sisters Katie (Mark Longo) Gregor, of Fond du Lac, Lynn (Buddy) LeFever of Menasha, Patty (John) Walgenbach of Oakfield, and Mary (Curt) Rechek of Brandon, and her brother-in-law Kevin Mengelt and family friend, Melody Milbrandt and her children. She will also be missed by her brothers and sisters in law and dozens of nieces and nephews.

Nanette was preceded in death by her parents, brother Terrance Curran and sister Maureen Mengelt.
