Nicholas W. Kartheiser
Nicholas William Kartheiser, age 55, of Loxahatchee, Florida entered the Lord’s loving embrace surrounded by his wife and children on January 26, 2022, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with ALS. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Brenda (Stearns) Kartheiser, his children, Megan E. Kartheiser and Nicholas W. Kartheiser, his brothers William (Sharon) Kartheiser, John (Sandy) Kartheiser, Donald (Jeanette) Kartheiser, Mark Kartheiser and sisters Julie (Bill) Hilbert, Linda (Tom) Steiner, Amy (Eric) Guerin and Sister-in-law Bonnie Kartheiser.
Nick was preceeded in death by his parents, William and Eunice (Ludwig) Kartheiser, and his brother, Stephen Kartheiser.
Nick was born in Chilton, Wisconsin on November 17, 1966, and grew up in Chilton. He graduated from Chilton High School with the class of 1985.
Upon his graduation he joined the Air Force where he met his wife Brenda. They were married in October, 2000. He proudly served as a Facilities and Missile Maintenance Technician while stationed in Wyoming and California from 1985-2006.
Following his Air Force retirement in 2006, Nick spent the next eight years as a stay at home dad, raising his children while his wife Brenda finished out her Air Force career. Upon his wife’s retirement, the family moved to Florida where he worked for the U S. Postal Service for 2 years but the county was short school bus drivers so he began working as a special needs school bus driver. He loved the kids and the job and they loved him equally, but once he was diagnosed with ALS, he was forced to stop driving.
Nick was a huge fan of any sport representing Wisconsin and could sometimes be heard by his neighbors offering the players verbal encouragement when watching games on TV. His favorite movies were Clint Eastwood Westerns, Kill Bill and sequels, and My Cousin Vinnie.
Nick fought ALS bravely. He showed tremendous strength and courage in the face of his diagnosis. Even on the most challenging days, he greeted his family, friends, and care team with his smile. His family will be forever grateful for all the love and support they received from those who traveled this difficult journey with them.
Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 12:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2022, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at Wieting Family Funeral Home, 411 W Main St, Chilton, WI 53014 . Those who wish to see a recording of the service in the future can do so by clicking HERE
Interment with military honors will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton.
