Olive Freischmidt

Olive Freischmidt, 99, formerly of Lakeview Assisted Living, St. Francis Home Assisted Living, and St. Francis Nursing Home, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Hospice Home of Hope.

She was born November 30, 1914 in Fond du Lac, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Hirsch Konen.

On February 6, 1933 she married Claude Freischmidt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fond du Lac.

Olive was employed by the Fond du Lac Theater as a secretary and cashier and later, for many years, served as a secretary in the mortgage department at First Wisconsin National Bank. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, formerly attended St. Patrick’s Church where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society; was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and a former member of the National Secretaries Association.

Left behind to honor Olive’s memory are her five children, Janet (Melvin) Birschbach, and Pam (Ronald) Birschbach, all of Fond du Lac, Leon (Rosemary) Freischmidt, of DePere, Penny Kohn, and Gordon (Beverly) Freischmidt, all of Sun Prairie; a daughter-in-law, Rose Freischmidt of DePere, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. 

Olive was preceded in death by her husband Claude in May of 1984, a son, Gary Freischmidt, an infant great-great-granddaughter, one brother Herbert Konen, four sisters, Mary B. Konen, Loretta “Lori” A. Konen, and Regina Collins, Margaret Williams, and a grandson, Kip Bell.

Visitation: Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Francis Home Chapel on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the St. Agnes Hospice Hope Program.
