Paul J. Petrie

Paul J. Petrie, a long time resident of the Sherwood – Stockbridge area, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Paul was born September 18, 1927, in the Town of Woodville, son of the late Leonard & Mary (Benzchawel) Petrie. On January 8, 1955, Paul married the love of his life, Eileen Vandenberg at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly and they enjoyed 66 years of life together.

Paul grew up on the family farm and attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School in Sherwood.  Following his graduation, Paul continued to help his father on the family farm and worked as a greenskeeper at the the North Shore Golf Club.  Paul devoted the prime years of his life to the honorable service to his country through the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his Honorable Discharge, he worked at the Marathon-American Can Company and retired after 35 years of service.

Through the years, Paul enjoyed his favorite sports of hunting and fishing (especially sturgeon). He so enjoyed being outdoors, working in his perfect, weedless garden or making wood to burn during the cold winter months. He truly was an outstanding handy man, fixing anything and everything that needed mending, even broken hearts. He, along with Eileen, were foster parents for many years.
