Peter L. Burns

Peter “Pete” L. Burns, 61, of Fond du Lac, died Friday, September 2, 2016, at his residence.

He was born on November 9, 1954, in Fond du Lac, a son of Donald C. and June E. (LaPine) Burns.  He graduated from L.P. Goodrich High School, Class of 1972.

On August 22, 1980, he married Kathryn “Kathy” Hitchcock at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac.

Pete worked at Mercury Marine for 43 years.  He was a member of the Local Lodge No. 1947 I.A.M.-AW.  He was a member of Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran, and sang in the church choir.  Pete was the family handy man. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, camping, hunting, and trapshooting.

Those Pete leaves behind to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy of humor, honesty, and love of God are: his wife, Kathy; four children: Ginnette (Luke) Newman, Edward (Jenny) Burns, Greg Burns, and Beth (Nathan) Arthurs, all of Fond du Lac; nine grandchildren: Katerina Newman, Olivia Newman, Ava Newman, Arianna Burns, Joseph Burns, Makaila Dorn, Amelia Arthurs, Landon Arthurs, Brody Arthurs; eleven siblings:  John Burns of Fond du Lac, Gary Burns of Wild Rose, Tim (Joanne) Burns of Davenport, Iowa, Jim (Patty) Burns of Fond du Lac, Debra (Randy) Nellessen of Fond du Lac, Gerald (Suzie) Burns of Fond du Lac, Rick (Sherry) Burns of Eden, Bill (Patty) Burns of Fond du Lac, Pat (Candie) Burns of Fond du Lac, Donna (Benjamin) Blanc of Brownsville, and Becky (Ryan) Romalia of North Fond du Lac; two brothers-in-law:  Harry (Suzanna) Hitchcock of Yuma, Arizona and Mike (Deb) Hitchcock of Appleton; a special daughter-in-law and friend, Heidi Burns; three godchildren:  Avery Burns of Fond du Lac, Noah Katt of Racine, and Katy Hitchcock Tinker of Portland, Oregon; special sisters-in-law:  Linda (Adrian) Primmer of Kenosha, Gail Katt of Racine, and Kathy (Tony) Ellingson of Sturtevant; and a good friend and “brother from another mother”, Rich (Kathy) Geasland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Dean and Jackie Hitchcock; a brother-in-law, Pat Hitchcock; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.


VISITATION:  The visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Kurki-Mach Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac and on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran, 363 South Main Street, Fond du Lac from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.


SERVICE:  The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran.

Burial will be in Rienzi Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Church of Our Saviour Evangelical Lutheran-Choir, Agnesian Cancer Center, or Agnesian Hospice Hope.
