Phyllis M. Collien

Phyllis M. Collien, 89, of Oakfield, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.  Phyllis was born October 7, 1932 in Little Falls, WI, the daughter of Ogden and Maggie (Gilbertson) Hjelle.  The Hjelle family moved to Fond du Lac in the early 1940’s.  Phyllis graduated from Goodrich High School in 1951.  After graduation she worked as a telephone operator.

On May 5, 1956 she married Lyle M. Collien at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.  Throughout the years she worked at Weinberger’s Grocery Store in Oakfield and Kohl’s Department Store.  Phyllis and Lyle enjoyed a very active life.  They enjoyed riding their snowmobiles for many years.  In the 80’s they renewed their love of motorcycle riding.  They rode their Harley Low Rider out to Sturgis 16 times between 1991 and 2009.  They never trailered the bike to Sturgis either.  They rode all the way there and back!

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Lyle; sons, Terry (Joan) and Alan; daughter, Mona (Scott); granddaughters, Andrea (Shamonte) and Melissa; great grandchildren, Jalen, Jackson, Kyan, Landree, and Millie; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arden (Jean); brothers and sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Al Kohli Sr, Milton “Bud” and Dorothy Collien, and Don and Lucille Zahn.

Visitation for Phyllis will be held Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 9:30 – 11:30 AM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 245 S. Second Street in Oakfield.  The Celebration of her Life will follow at 11:30 AM on Thursday at church with Rev. Matthew Schwartz officiating.  Burial will follow in Avoca Cemetery.

The family will be forever grateful to Andrea and Melissa for the loving care they gave their grandmother in her final days, which enabled her to pass away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones. The family would also like to thank Michele and Kaitlyn of St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Phyllis’ name.
