Randall M. Michiels

Randall (Randy) M. Michiels, age 71, of Sherwood, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton from complications caused by Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). He was born March 11, 1950, son of the late Julie and Jerry Michiels. In October of 1984, he married Cynthia Hemauer and they had a son, Mitchell.

Growing up Randy’s life revolved around Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts – and anything else that ended in Scouts. While in Scouts Randy took the opportunity to immerse himself in every possible way; he still holds many of the badges, flags, uniforms, and other mementos to this day.

As a young adult, Randy attended the University of Wisconsin Green Bay where he graduated with a political science degree. Randy was a jack of all trades. He took on the responsibility of being a Scout Leader at Gardner Damn, helping his father, Jerry, run Michiels Inn, in Sherwood, all while earning his pilot’s license.

After marrying and having his son, Mitchell, Randy pursued his dream career, becoming a charter pilot at Maxair. During these years, Randy continued to live his passions: God, Traveling, and being a father. He was a devoted Catholic, serving as an usher in his parish, faithfully attending services. He took his family on many road trips, some of the most enjoyable  included traveling across the country, from the Atlantic to Pacific, visiting notable landmarks along the way. Randy found joy in being a father. Mitchell has fond memories of playing baseball in the backyard, hiking through the woods in Sherwood, whitewater rafting trips at Shotgun Eddies, and big bonfires in the backyard.

Later in life, Randy retired from flying and then took up slinging drinks at Fox Banquets Rivertyme Catering with his sister, Debra and other notable Michiels.

Randall is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his son: Mitchell (Nicole) Michiels; granddaughters: Lainey and Harper Michiels; and siblings: Monte Michiels, Debra (Ken) Pearson, Cindy Newton, Sue (Jim) Breedlove, Rick Michiels, Todd (Kimberly) Michiels; and a sister-in-law: Karen Michiels. Randal was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Scott Michiels and Tim Michiels.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (N369 Military Rd.) in Sherwood with a committal service to follow at the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 am until 10:15 am at the church on the day of service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in the name of Randall Michiels.
