Robert A. Kuhnz

Robert Arnie Kuhnz, 92, of
Fond du Lac, was called to his eternal home on Sunday, January 21, 2018.

 

He was born in Fond du Lac on
March 30, 1925, the son of Ervin H. and Lillian L. (Schultz) Kuhnz, the
youngest of twins. He worked at Sunrise Lodge, Land-O-Lakes, and Richman’s
Clothing before graduating high school.  Robert
graduated from Fond du Lac Senior High, Class of 1943.  After graduation he entered the U.S. Navy,
serving proudly as radarman on the destroyer USS Laws in the Pacific Theater
during WWII.

 

On October 25, 1947, he
married Betty J. Lee, at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.  He worked as a commercial artist at Canvas
Products from 1946 to 1953 and Mercury Marine from 1953 until he retired after
34 years in 1987.  After Betty’s death in
1996, he was married to Nancy (Park) Jaeger, on October 14, 2000, at
Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.

 

Bob was involved in many
community activities and organizations in his lifelong home of Fond du
Lac.  He was a board member and publicity
director for the Fond du Lac United Way from 1978 to 1987.  He was an active member of Immanuel-Trinity
Lutheran church where he was a church council member and head usher for over 50
years.  Bob is a past member of the Fond
du Lac Noon Optimist Club and past member of the Fond du Lac Salvation Army
Advisory Board.  He was past member of
the Elks Lodge #57, and a member of Fond du Lac High Alumni Association and
active co-chairperson in all of his class reunions. 

 

He was also very involved
with the Fond du Lac Historical Society and the Galloway House and
Village.  He was board member and
publicity director for 27 years and Chairman of the Board for 13 years.  He was a member of the committee to produce
our society’s Fond du Lac County History Book and the planning for the 50th
anniversary of the Fond du Lac County Historical Society and 40th
anniversary of the Galloway House and Village. 
He and his wife Nancy were caretakers for the Galloway House grounds for
seven years.  In 1992 Bob was named
Outstanding Fond du Lac County Senior Citizen.

 

Surviving Bob are his wife,
Nancy of Fond du Lac; his sons: Jerry (Mary) of Greenfield, Wisconsin and
Jeffrey (Cheryl) of Fond du Lac; five grandchildren: Jason (Anne), Heidi (Bill)
Bywater, Brian (Dawn), Julie (Nick) Rusch and Daniel (Sarah); eleven
great-grandchildren; three step-children: Jeff (Judy) Jaeger of Wautoma, Joel
(Tara) Jaeger of Rosendale, and Brian Jaeger of Fond du Lac; and his
step-grandson, Miles Jaeger.

 

He is preceded in death by
his parents, wife Betty, sister and brother-in-laws: Robert (Evelyn) Willie,
William (Blanche) Kuhnz, Lyle (Sylvia) Kuhnz, and twin brother Richard (Marie)
Kuhnz.  He is also preceded in death by
two grandchildren, Andrew Kuhnz and Jennifer Kuhnz.

 

VISITATION: A casual gathering
of friends will be on Monday, January 29, 2018, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at
Kurki-Mach Funeral Chapel, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac.  A military service will be conducted by
American Legion Trier-Puddy Post #75 at 4:30 PM in the chapel. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials
are appreciated to the Salvation Army.

 

Cremation has taken place.
