Robert H. Lang

Robert (Bob) Hubert Lang, 93 of Fond du Lac, WI passed away
peacefully at home on August 11, 2018 surrounded by his family. He
was born on June 27, 1925 to Joseph and Clara (Polus) Lang at their
home in North Fond du Lac.
Bob attended school in North Fond du Lac and in 1943, he entered the
Army in the Combat Engineer Division. During WWII, he was
stationed in Korea and the Philippines and was discharged in 1946,
having received a bronze star. On June 10, 1950, he was married at
Presentation Church in North Fond du Lac to Helen Fiebig. Helen died
on March 14, 1983. On October 7, 1989 he married Barbara Smet at
St. Louis Church in Fond du Lac.
Throughout his life, Bob had various jobs working in grocery stores and
as a salesman. He worked for Quick Freeze, Damrows, and Mercury
Marine and as a Carman for the Soo Line Railroad where he became
disabled following a railroad accident.
Bob was an active member of St. Louis Parish of Fond du Lac for fifty
years. He was a member of the St. Louis Men’s Club, served as an
usher, Eucharistic Minister and an Adult Server for parish Funerals
and was honored to serve at the closing of St. Louis Church on August
25, 2005. Bob has been a member of Holy Family Catholic Community
since 2000. Bob and his wife, Barb owned and operated Parent-Child
Preschool from 1989-2000. Bob enjoyed dancing, listening to Polka
music, the Braves baseball games and playing cards. On June 11, 2016
Bob was privileged to participate in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight
to the World War II Memorials in Washington DC, accompanied by his
granddaughter Amy as his Guardian.
Survivors include his wife, Barb, two sons, Robert C. Lang of Fond du
Lac and Mark Lang of Plymouth, one daughter, Stephanie (Robert)
Thurk of Fond du Lac along with four grandchildren, Christine (Tom)
Lapine; Julie (Shawn) Grossman; Joseph Thurk of Fond du Lac; and
Amy (Rob) Helminiak, of Jackson, as well as three precious greatgrandchildren:
Alli and Howard “Howie” Grossman of Fond du Lac
and Addison Helminiak of Jackson. Bob is further survived by his
sister, Jane Lyness of Fond du Lac. Bob is also survived by the
following in–laws: Joann Smet and Patrick Smet of Fond du Lac,
Kenneth Smet of Maribel, Mary (John Malorzo) of Appleton, along
with many friends and relatives.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Helen Fiebig,
two brothers Arthur (Anita), Gerald (Beulah), and four sisters: Virginia
(John) Mielke, Marion (Darold) Seresse, Janet (Glen) Smit, Elaine
(Sylvester) Schry; brother-in-law, Art Lyness and a daughter-in-law,
Mary Lang.
Visitation: Bob’s family welcomes relatives and friends for a time of
visitation on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875
E. Division St., Fond du Lac, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM closing with a
prayer vigil, and again, on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Holy Family
Catholic Church, 271 4th Street Way, Fond du Lac, from 9:00 to 10:45
AM
Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday,
August 17, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Bob will
be honored with full military honors at the church. Entombment will
follow at Calvary Mausoleum.
The family would like to thank Agnesian Hospice Nurses Lori, Dana,
Joyce, Kari and Joann, along with Chaplin Tim and aides Dawn and
Blonca for the exceptional care given to Bob these past two months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Hope, Stars and
Stripes Honor Flight or Holy Family Parish in Bob’s name.
